A Study on the Paternity-Resignation of the Married Parents

Abstract
In order to investigate the actual state on paternity-resignation of the married parents, this study was conducted for 1 month from Aug. 1, 1982. The population surveyed was 118 married parents who had consulted about resigning paternity to S.W.S. from July 1, 1977 to June 30, 1982.
The result could be summarized as follows:
1) In demographic backgrounds, the average age of the fathers was 35.3 years old and that of the mothers was 30.8 years old. And the fathers (61%) and the mothers (76.3%) were under middle school graduates. 71.2% of the subjects lived in urban area and 56.3% was in separation.
2) The familial style of the subjects was nuclear family mostly (81.4%) and the average period of a married life was 6.1 years. The average number of children was 3.5 and that of son was 1.1 and that of daughter was 2.5. The cohabited group. was more than the separated group in the average number of children (4.9:2.5) and the period of a married life (7.5yrs.: 5yrs. ).
3) In the cohabited group, 82.3% of the babies resigned paternity was female, 90.2% was under 7 days in the age and 76.5% was delivered in the hospital and H. C. & M. C. In the separated group, 69.5% of the babies resigned paternity was female and 59.7% was under 6 months in the age and 65.7 % was delivered at home. The main reason to be delivered was "to have a son" (60.8%) in the cohabited group and was "without special reason" (80.69,) in the separated group.
4) In paternity-resignation of the baby, 78.4% of the cohabited group referred to the welfare agency immediately after delivery through the delivery place (66.8%). Most of decision-makers was the father and mother (96.1 %) in" the cohabited group and was the father or the mother only (71.7%) in the separated group. The main reason to resign paternity was "due to being delivered of a daughter" (56.9%) in the cohabited group and was "due to separation only" (53.7%) in the separated group.
